Left Boonah after a very pleasant idle week in mostly sunshine and on to Yandina for a couple of nights. Did attend the Boonah Show. Good fun…

In Yandina we had a great lunch with the ex-Melbourne crew of Greg and Terri Corben, Bridie Evett and Frank Deane (unfortunately Jenny Deane was not well and couldn’t make it this time but hopefully we’ll catch up at a later date)….

Good lunch at the Nambour RSL, great to catch up with all these deserters (from the cold south) and eventually on to Maryborough where we ultimately spend a penny ….

at the Maryborough Town Hall. This is the ‘Cistern Chapel’, ably attended by the ‘Flusher Ushers’, a volunteer corps directing you to the right door when the loos are not in use.
We actually spent a wonderful week with the Robertsons (Anne and Alex) in Maryborough and on Sunday Alex and I attended a Hervey Bay MG Club social drive in Alexs’ Midget. A very sociable group which in turn lead to a viewing of David Hill and Lyn Haywards astounding collection of MGs and other “stuff”…..
.

This private collection, the way it is displayed and set out defies belief – it is stunning! Thank you David and Lyn for sharing your love of MG’s. I am more than envious.
We also experienced the Maryborough Military Museum which is a fabulous memorial to past conflicts. It too is well presented and contains some incredible memorabilia. The Old Bond Store opposite was also worth the visit.
Ever onwards to warmer climes we made Bundaberg to stay in the CMCA RV Park. We joined about 35 others over 3 nights and set about exploring the Bundaberg that we never got to see when we lived and worked here in 16/17. Revisiting the caravan parks that we were involved with brought no real surprises other than for the fact that they were poorly patronised for this time of year and that no real improvements had been made to them – in fact they had really gone downhill. We finally got to visit the Bundaberg Brewery and taste tested 15 different soft drinks made there, of course including Ginger Beer. They no longer conduct actual brewery tours, said to be for Occ. Health and safety reasons but provide a mockup display of the brewing process in their visitor showroom, The Barrel….

We explored Bundaberg finding it to be an altogether bigger city than we had previously known. We also spent some time trying to replace my phone, a task which seemed initially simple enough but turned into a small saga when the new phone was delivered to home in Benalla – OK, cancel that one and lets try again. One positive outcome of our exploration of Bundaberg did result in the purchase of a new i-pad for me, on sale cheap at Woolworths. All very well but have you tried to move all your stuff over to a new device? Whats this bloody I-Cloud stuff that I somehow now find all my stuff goes to and I’ve got to pay for by the month. Didn’t get a phone but I did get a headache.
We’ve since made Emu Park and Lawrie Hohensee’s place (50 k east of Rockhampton, near Yeppoon). Have managed to navigate the maze of confusion and bureaucracy of Telstra and secured a new phone, actually in my hands and we also got Telstra to copy everything over from the old one. And it works!!!
